Today I got to meet Joseph's teacher. I also took Joseph to his cello audition so they can determine which class to put him in. He might be the only cellist again so it may not matter. He would be the only one in the class.

Tonight Audrey wanted to draw and do crafts. She got a bag of spangles and glue and went to work making her "creation." She just loves art!

Repurposing

I hate throwing things away. I don't know why. Doss threw a pair of Audrey's old sandals away. The backstrap that connected the sandals to the front was broken. I fished them out of the trash, cut off the straps in the back, and turned them into slippers. With a little yarn, I turned them into a cute pair of flip flops that Audrey really likes. The girls also helped me make a cute little horse from some old socks. Katelyn loves her new baby horse. I am supposed to be cleaning and purging the apartment of useless stuff but I am just transforming old stuff into new stuff...lol.

Broken Toe

Joseph stubbed his toe about a week ago. He had complained off and on that his toe hurt. Yesterday after gymastics Joseph was really upset and said his toe hurt alot. He said the other kids were being unruly and kept stepping on his feet. I went ahead and took him to the doctor today. They x-rayed his toe and it appears that he has fractured the big toe on his left foot. Poor Joseph is upset that he is not supposed to run or do any physical activities that require him to put impact on his feet/toes. His toes are currently taped together. He is not a happy camper.

MP3 Player

We spend lots of time in the car. Lately Katelyn has enjoyed listening to music on an MP3 player and sometimes she will sing along too. She is so cute!

Camera Shy

Katelyn doesn't like to have her picture taken. I am not sure why. I really wish she would be more cooperative. I was trying to take a picture of Doss and Katelyn and Joseph photobombed the picture...silly boy.

Great Day

This morning we went and cleaned the Church.  We just played board games in the afternoon.  Later we roasted marshmallows and grilled hot dogs.  We had a really nice day.  It is also so fun to watch the kids play together. Tonight they were dancing together doing the Just Dance game on the Wii.

Coffee Table

Yay! Batavia 3 delivered our custom coffee table today. It has 2 hidden drawers and Dayak inspired carvings on all 4 sides. I love it! It also matches our bench that we bought earlier this summer.

Kebaya

Some friends invited us to attend an art exhibit at the national gallery tomorrow. Apparently it is a fancy engagement and the dress is kebaya and sarong. I went shopping this evening and bought an outfit. The kebaya is the national dress/blouse for women. Some are super beautiful with a price tag to match. The one I got was not cheap by any standards but it was one of the less expensive ones I came across at the mall. I might go look around one of the local malls sometime to see if they are significantly less expensive. Anyways, I plan on getting lots of use out of the new outfit.

Baby Hats

We had an on-going RS project where we made baby hats for a hospital.  Apparently the project has now come to an end and the last delivery will be made soon. I still had some yarn left over so I made a bunch of hats today. I think I can finish off the rest of the yarn tomorrow.

First Day of School

Today was Katelyn's first day of school. She was not too happy about going to school. Still, she was a trooper and got on the bus. I think she might have cried at school. Her teacher sent a note saying that almost all the kids did great today. Only 1 shed a few tears. I am pretty sure it was Katelyn. Poor baby girl has been dreading going unlike Joseph and Audrey who couldn't wait to be in school. She said school was good. I hope she is okay with going back tomorrow.

Little Man

My little man is growing up. This morning he put on a tie for church. It kind of makes me a little sad that he doesn't have a baby face anymore. Kids sure do grow fast!

Board Games

#229/365

Joseph loves board games.  Uncle R introduced Joseph to one called Seven Wonders while we were in Texas this last summer.  We liked it so we bought it and brought it back with us.  That has been a fun game that we have enjoyed playing.

Backlogged Part 5

I should be all caught up after this post.

#176/365

I took Katelyn and my niece to San Antonio to meet up with one of my old roommates from BYU.   We also met up with the family that let me stay with them when I did my research internship at Argonne National Lab.  They had just recently moved to San Antonio.  We had a blast!  The other 2 kids didn’t want to go but then they were upset when we got back. Joseph said, “I didn’t know you were going to have fun!”

My friend D and her friend stayed at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio.  It is supposed to be haunted.  Part of the hotel does have an old creepy feel to it.

4th of July was a hoot.  We set up a shaving cream station where they could slip and slide around.  Then they played in the sprinkler and had water gun and water balloon fights to clean off.  Later we let them play with snappers and glow sticks.  It was a fun day.
